Our Food: Conscious Choices

For more balanced moments of indulgence

Conscious choices to enjoy.

More and more people want to know what is in their food. That’s why we provide information to support conscious choices, for example on nutritional values and ingredients – and continuously offer more balanced products. Where available and collected using clear criteria, we are gradually adding selected indicators, for instance through pilot projects on the Product Carbon Footprint.

Transparency wanted

We want it to be easy to understand what is in our products. Well-known labels help people understand nutritional values at a glance. In addition, as part of pilot projects, we provide information on the carbon footprint of our products.

Our Product Carbon Footprint calculations show that raw materials and recipes have a significant impact on the carbon footprint of our pizzas, especially when animal-based ingredients are used. One example from our range*: Our Ristorante Pizza Pomodori Vegan generates around 50% less CO2e than Ristorante Pizza Margherita, while the Ristorante Pizza Margherita causes around 10% less CO2e than our Ristorante Pizza Salame.

* Cradle-to-gate calculation; the PCF methodology was independently verified by TÜV Nord in February 2026 in accordance with ISO 14067 Annex C, providing external confirmation of our approach and the underlying data.

A classic goes vegan.

Vegan pizzas in the Ristorante range: As part of our best-selling pizza range worldwide, we’ve been offering plant-based options in a number of European countries as well as Canada since 2021. For example, the Ristorante Pizza Margherita Pomodori with cocktail tomatoes, marinated tomato chunks, green pesto with herbs, and melt-in-your-mouth cheese substitute made with coconut oil. The Ristorante Pizza Rossa Vegetale with grilled vegetables and green pesto promises real Ristorante joy even without cheese.

Vegan jelly

Brazilian consumers can now also enjoy their favorite dessert vegan: Dr. Oetker Vegano contains purely plant-based ingredients and is available in three popular flavors: strawberry, pineapple and grape.

Can it also be vegan?

The new recipe for our Shirriff dessert and cake fillings in Canada allows vegan preparation, which is advertised on the packaging. Rice pudding & co. in Germany now have a note on how they can be prepared with plant-based drinks to make a delicious “sweet meal”. More examples can be found on our local brand websites.

In Balance

As delicious as ever, more balanced step by step: We reduce salt and sugar where possible, while also continuing to develop more balanced products.

Our definition for "more balanced products"

We define “more balanced” as products that carry a legally permitted health or nutrition claim such as “high in protein,” “low in fat,” “no added sugar,” or “high in fibre,” or that are non-HFSS. HFSS stands for “high in fat, salt or sugar”, so non-HFSS means the opposite. Non-HFSS products are therefore foods and beverages that, according to the UK Nutrient Profiling Model developed by the British Food Standards Agency, do not have high levels of (saturated) fat, salt or sugar.
